Last Pint in England (Pen Press 2006) was the author’s first published work. The poems reflect upon love, self-doubt and facing death. It has been described as painfully honest writing and contains many memorable and disturbing images.
A collection of 50 poems.
Example poem:
I sometimes dream of tender girls
who smother me in golden curls
and kiss me gently as I sleep.
And then again I dream of friends
who left us long ago, they send
their love. They wake me and I weep.
I sometimes dream of bounding youth,
my limbs so strong and then the truth
returns as day begins to creep
into my consciousness, so stiff,
so painfully beset by age, as if
my youth had never been.
They hurt, these dreams of distant bliss,
these recollections of a kiss,
those days of glory, dimly seen
and yet there was a time when all
the world seemed there for me, a tall
and potent might-have-been.
My guardian angel came tonight
and warned me that it might
be soon. But that too was a dream.
